Position Title: Cytology Specialist

Department: Laboratory Services

Job Summary:

The Cytology Specialist is responsible for conducting microscopic evaluations of ThinPrep specimens, encompassing both gynecological and non-gynecological samples. This role involves a thorough review of pertinent patient clinical information related to the specimens.

The specialist will assess diagnostic options and provide cytopathological diagnoses. Collaboration with pathologists and laboratory management is essential for complex cases, ensuring that all abnormal findings and non-gynecological specimens are submitted for final diagnosis.

Each diagnostic evaluation will be meticulously documented, and case charges will be adjusted as necessary. The specialist will also review and electronically endorse every final report before distribution, utilizing laboratory information systems proficiently.

Quality control procedures will be implemented in accordance with hospital policies, and effective collaboration with pathologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals is crucial to deliver optimal patient care.

Educational Contributions:
Participation in the educational initiatives of the Cytotechnology program is expected, alongside maintaining expertise in Cytopathology through ongoing education and proficiency assessments.


Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
- Completion of an accredited Cytotechnology education program is essential.
- ASCP certification as a Cytotechnologist is mandatory.
- Proficiency in laboratory equipment usage is required, along with manual dexterity for specimen processing and equipment handling.
- Strong command of the English language is necessary.
