About the RoleThe University of Miami is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Curator to join our team at the Lowe Art Museum. As a key member of our Collections & Exhibitions Services team, you will play a vital role in supporting the Chief Curator and guest curators in the coordination and realization of permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, as well as related programs and events.
Key Responsibilities- Exhibition Development
- Support the research and development of exhibitions, commissions, and related programs, as directed by the Chief Curator.
- Collaborate with the Chief Curator on the identification, planning, and management of future exhibitions and gallery rotations at the Lowe.
- Collections Care & Development
- Assist the Chief Curator with the curation and oversight of the museum's extensive permanent collection, consisting of over 19,500 objects dating from classical times to the 21st century.
- Collaborate with the Chief Curator and Lowe's Collections & Exhibitions team to ensure the highest museum standards are maintained in the galleries and storage areas.
- Research
- Conduct research related to Lowe exhibitions and the museum's permanent collection.
- Assist students, researchers, and members of the public with collections-related inquiries.
- Other
- Work to develop, document, and follow budgets.
- Prepare requisition orders and invoices, as directed by the Chief Curator and/or Lowe Office Manager.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Art History or PhD preferred.
- Four years of experience with an art museum or gallery; five years of experience preferred.
- Extensive experience with all aspects of the development and implementation of temporary art exhibitions and with permanent collections at an art museum and/or gallery.
- Ability to evaluate priorities and work well under pressure.
- Excellent time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
