Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personalized instruction in mobility techniques, including navigation of unfamiliar environments, pre-cane skills, and public transportation use.
  • Support clients in acquiring essential skills for independent living and competitive employment.
  • Design and implement training programs that align with the goal of fostering employment opportunities.
  • Evaluate and adjust training plans to ensure they meet the evolving needs of clients.
  • Assess clients' visual capabilities and any additional disabilities that may affect their performance.
  • Create detailed lesson plans that outline daily objectives and goals.
  • Collaborate with clients to establish mutually agreed-upon program goals.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of client progress and communicate findings as necessary.
  • Manage equipment maintenance and inventory, ensuring all tools are in optimal condition.
  • Act as a key resource for program coordination and client support.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and contribute to public education initiatives.
  • Assist with departmental needs and adapt to changes in program requirements.
  • Recommend additional services that may benefit clients, such as audiology or physical therapy.
  • Provide training and supervision for volunteers or interns as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in Orientation and Mobility (O&M) or eligibility for certification.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and four years of relevant professional experience.
  • A master's degree may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Relevant professional experience may substitute for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
