POSITION SUMMARY: This role is pivotal in evaluating project plans and generating accurate cost assessments for both design/build and plan & spec initiatives. It requires a thorough examination of blueprints and client specifications within the plumbing, process piping, and HVAC sectors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: To excel in this position, the following duties must be performed effectively. These responsibilities are indicative but not exhaustive of what is required to thrive in this role. - Adhere to the required schedule and hours to meet project deadlines and support the estimation team.
- Utilize estimation software to assess labor and material expenses for piping, ductwork, insulation, and plumbing systems.
- Analyze and interpret project plans and specifications.
- Identify project bidding requirements, scope of work, critical timelines, non-standard conditions, cost implications, material and equipment specifications, safety and compliance needs, risk management, and unique requirements.
- Work on details related to piping, ductwork, and plumbing, including system sizing, calculations, capacities, equipment selections, best practices, design schematics, code compliance, and associated design data.
- Acquire knowledge and use internal software for project estimations.
- Prepare proposal and bid submission documents for plan and spec projects and assist with design/build documentation.
- Facilitate the transfer of project details and estimate information to Project Managers.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings.
- Collaborate with contractors on successful bids to gather essential information.
- Support Project Managers with change orders and budget modifications.
- Stay informed about software updates and industry standards.
- Engage in company training programs and attend external conferences or seminars as necessary.
- Undertake special assignments, additional projects, or other job-related tasks as directed by the executive team.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Possession of a college degree and/or equivalent professional experience.
- Prior experience in estimating within mechanical contracting is preferred but not mandatory.
- Proficient in computer usage, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and online resources.
- Experience with Estimation Software is preferred.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication and organizational abilities.
- Strong capability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective team collaborator and able to work independently with minimal oversight.
- Receptive to constructive feedback and willing to apply it.
- Attention to detail and thorough follow-through; capable of managing sensitive and confidential information.
- Professional demeanor with a commitment to excellence in job performance.
- Ability to engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
