Controls Engineer Job Description

LHH is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join their team in Bloomington, IN. This is a direct hire, permanent placement position with a manufacturing client who values operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects related to PLCs, automation, robotics, HMIs, and continuous improvement
  • Troubleshoot PLC-based machinery and conduct follow-up on resolutions
  • Conduct root cause analysis of equipment-related issues
  • Contribute to the design, improvement, and implementation of automation throughout the manufacturing facility
  • Upgrade obsolete controls and programming on existing equipment
  • Identify and repair system issues, sensors, and equipment
  • Program and maintain HMI at each production center/cell
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance and continuous improvement strategies
  • Coordinate with engineering and production personnel to develop a shared vision for daily engineering tasks

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (non-negotiable)
  • Minimum 2+ years of controls and/or automation engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (non-negotiable)
  • Ability to troubleshoot using Allen Bradley PLCs (non-negotiable)
  • Experience with Ladder Logic and leading or assisting with automation projects
  • Strong analytical, trouble-shooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a cross-functional team
