We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the University of New Mexico - Hospitals. This is a casual pool position, working as needed on rotating shifts.
About the JobIn this role, you will provide direct nursing care to assigned patients, consistent with clinical specialty and independent of patient location. As a role model, you will promote a positive work environment and quality patient care. You will be responsible for ensuring adherence to hospitals and departmental policies and procedures.
The minimum work requirement for this position is two shifts per schedule, including one weekend shift and one summer and one winter holiday. Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.
Detailed Responsibilities- Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops.
- Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes.
- Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
- Work within hospital, nursing division, and departmental policies.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team, implement, and document individualized care plans incorporating age-specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
- Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings.
- Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained.
- Participate in orientation; upon successful completion of preceptor training assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel.
- Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner.

* RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification w/in 6 months
* Basic Arrhythmia Cert w/in 1 year
Nonessential:
* Nationally Certified in area of specialty
* PALS
* TNCC and/or ENPC
Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people.
