Job Overview

Position Summary

Key Responsibilities:

Role Summary

Under minimal oversight, the welder is responsible for joining metal parts utilizing various welding techniques, including brazing and both arc and gas welding equipment, to construct or mend components such as vanes, shrouds, and other turbine jet engine parts.

Core Duties
  • Prepare welding apparatus, align components for welding, modify current settings, choose appropriate gas and orifice, and control gas flow to achieve optimal weld quality and metal fusion.
  • Execute specialized welding tasks on turbine air-cooled vanes and vane rings, as well as other critical components of turbo jet engines, adhering to technical specifications.
  • Fabricate necessary gas backup and chilled bars to ensure effective weld repairs.
  • Utilize gas welding, brazing, and various arc welding methods to join metal parts.
  • Conduct related activities such as thermal cutting and surface grinding.
  • Repair damaged or fractured components, fill voids, and enlarge metal parts as needed.
  • Assemble and secure components of fabricated metal products in preparation for welding.
  • Identify and mend cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area, contributing to team housekeeping efforts.
  • Comply with all safety protocols, including lock-out/tag-out procedures; report safety issues, utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhere to safety practices.
  • Support the training of new team members.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)/Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding, or a minimum of 40 college credit hours in Welding from an accredited institution, including GTAW/TIG welding.
  • Certification as a welder on components is mandatory, in line with Quality Assurance Manual standards; passing periodic welding proficiency assessments is required.
  • Willingness to work overtime and flexible shifts.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; interpret and follow written procedures, such as Aviation Work Instructions, and complete necessary documentation.
Preferred Attributes
  • Associate's degree or a 2-year certificate in Welding from an accredited institution, including GTAW/TIG welding.
  • Demonstrated experience and a proactive approach to identifying process improvements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to promoting safe work practices.
  • Strong communication skills.
