Rig Operations Role

The Rig Operator plays a crucial role in the success of our workover rig crews. As a leader, this individual is responsible for ensuring that all crew members are properly prepared for each shift, inspecting and maintaining the workover rig, and performing various operating functions as needed.

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate crew readiness for each shift at the assigned rig location.
  • Support the workover crew in performing operating functions, including driving the workover rig as necessary to the job site, under direction from the field supervisor/Tool Pusher, and/or the customer company representative.
  • Inspect the setup, teardown, and transportation of the assigned workover rig.
  • Perform routine inspections and troubleshoot all service equipment.
  • Monitor, test, install, lift, and remove equipment using proper job and safety procedures.
  • May train and direct the crew on safety and job procedures.
  • Manage the job safety analysis and daily maintenance program for the rig, ensuring the crew understands the programs and procedures.
  • May be required to work outside of the regular schedule to meet customer needs.
  • Depending on project and rig assignment, may be required to perform other functional duties as assigned by the Tool Pusher/Field Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Valid state issued driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR); Class A or B CDL a plus/preferred.
  • Five years of workover rig experience; production experience a plus; two years of Rig Operator experience required and at least two years operational and safety experience as a Derrick Hand and Floor Hand required.
  • Knowledge of basic service mechanical functions.
  • Lifting heavy equipment up to 75 pounds ability.
  • Accessing work environments using ladders at 50 feet or higher.
  • Long periods of standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, or similar activities.
  • Able to work safely with protective equipment and H2S respirator where required.
  • Must be able to travel for the job.
  • Work performed in all weather conditions.
  • English language proficiency preferred.
  • Ability to interact with others in a team environment.
  • Problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Customer service skills providing world-class value to Axis customers.
  • Dependable communication method - cell phone preferred.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Cleared background check, pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, and job-specific screening ability.
