  • GENERAL OVERVIEW
    • The Anesthesia Support Specialist plays a crucial role in aiding the licensed anesthesia provider by managing the acquisition, preparation, and utilization of necessary equipment and supplies for effective anesthesia administration. This position also involves assisting the surgical team with equipment and supplies as required during procedures.
  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Safely transport patients as needed from various departments to the Operating Room, ensuring proper documentation is followed.
    • Facilitate the movement of stretchers throughout perioperative services, ensuring they are clean and ready for use, including checking that oxygen tanks are full and securely attached.
    • Gather essential equipment and supplies for surgical procedures as requested by nursing staff or surgical technicians.
    • Assist in the lifting and transferring of patients between the operating table and stretchers.
    • Handle the transportation of laboratory specimens and blood products as needed.
    • Restock essential items in locker rooms, scrub sinks, and sub-sterile areas daily, ensuring all necessary supplies are adequately available.
    • Help maintain the organization of departmental equipment storage areas and anesthesia carts.
    • Ensure that anesthesia equipment is functioning properly and in good condition.
    • Responsible for the turnover of anesthesia machines, including waste removal and restocking supplies in operating rooms and other locations between procedures. Prepare and maintain supplies for advanced airway management tools.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the needs of the anesthesiology department as directed by the anesthesia provider or Operating Room Registered Nurse.
  • CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
    • Preferred qualifications include certification as a Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician.
  • EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
    • Documentation of completed education or academic transcripts is required for those involved in complexity testing.
    • At least one year of relevant healthcare experience is preferred.
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
    • Familiarity with medical terminology and patient care practices related to anesthesia and airway management is essential.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in technical and professional skills in assigned areas.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT
    • This role is set in surgical areas, which may involve occasional exposure to strong odors from disinfectants and chemicals. There is frequent contact with infectious agents during equipment cleaning and needle handling. Adhering to safety protocols significantly reduces the risk of personal injury. The operating room environment may also present exposure to elevated noise levels and temperatures.
