Job Description and Position Requirements

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled engineer to join our Transduction Device and Array Development Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University.

The ARL is a leading research university and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas.

As part of the SONAR Research and Development Division (SRDD), the TDAD department provides transduction analysis and solutions for DoD underwater SONAR applications.

We will provide on-the-job training to hone your multi-disciplinary engineering skills to perform design, analysis, fabrication, and testing of underwater acoustic transduction devices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform electromechanical analysis, design, and testing of SONAR transducers / arrays
  • Design and analyze mechanical packaging concepts
  • Analyze electrical circuits
  • Design fabrication tooling and test beds
  • Create and apply assembly procedures
  • Provide oversight, technical leadership, and supervision of staff conducting transducer fabrication and testing
  • Contribute to/develop and present technical and project status reports
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant engineering or science field
  • Mechanical or electrical design experience
  • Technical problem-solving fundamentals
  • Technical writing skills
  • Data analysis skills
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering or science field
  • Computer modeling (CAD and/or FEA) experience
  • Experimental test conduct experience
  • Acoustics knowledge
  • Dimensional tolerance stack-up analysis experience
  • Underwater acoustic transducer/array design and fabrication techniques
  • An active government security clearance
Work Environment

The working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is: $76,129,500.00
