The Opportunity

As an Industrial Maintenance Operations Lead, you will provide expertise and leadership to the service and maintenance staff while ensuring safe maintenance, repair, or replacement of plant assets. Your role will also drive continuous improvement of plant operations to enable efficient, high-quality production of customer products.

You will impact Smurfit Westrock in several ways:

  • Develop and Implement a Maintenance Strategy: Create a short- and long-term maintenance strategy to align with WestRock's values and enable operating efficiency.
  • Supervise and Inspect Maintenance Work: Supervise and inspect maintenance work to ensure effective, efficient, and up-to-date technology and preferred maintenance practices are implemented by craftsmen.
  • Ensure a Safe Work Environment: Ensure a safe work environment and adherence to all corporate, state, and federal safety, health, and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations by all maintenance staff.
  • Manage Maintenance Employees: Manage maintenance employees, set and communicate maintenance schedules, and define a team vision to prevent downtime and minimize unexpected issues.
  • Create Daily Schedules: Create daily schedules with assigned tasks, timelines, and a cart with parts clearly marked to ensure the schedule is followed.
  • PvM Management: Ensure PvM's are completed and loaded into the system, follow up, and audit to ensure accuracy.
  • Establish Vendor Relationships: Establish good working relationships with outside vendors and report updates to management.
  • Conduct Purchasing: Conduct ordering for the plant regarding PO's and collaborate with management on budgeting and cost minimization.
  • Collaborate with Management: Build a good relationship with managers and supervisors, and collaborate with management to ensure machines are at 100% performance and determine additional training needs.
  • Maintain a Clean Shop: Maintain a clean and organized (5S) shop and inventory labeling.
What You Need to Succeed

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Techical Degree: A 2-year technical degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering is preferred.
  • Industrial Maintenance Experience: 5-10 years of industrial maintenance experience with supervisory experience of maintenance engineers is preferred.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Adept at problem-solving and identifying root cause to implement preventative methods.
  • Budget Management: Ability to plan and manage a budget.
  • Shift Work: Ability to work within a 24/7 plant operations facility.
  • Decision-Making: Be a strategic thinker with the confidence to make decisions that impact safety, uptime, and productivity.
  • Talent Development: Ability to coach and develop talent to create a highly productive, safety-conscious team.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to adjust communication style and interact across all levels of the organization.
