About the PositionThe Town of Chapel Hill is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Town Clerk to join our team. As the official secretary for the Town Council, the Town Clerk plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of public records, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and providing exceptional customer service to the community.
Key Responsibilities- Public Records Management: Safeguard and maintain accurate and up-to-date public records, including ordinances, resolutions, and electronic files.
- Meeting Coordination: Organize and coordinate Town Council meetings, work sessions, and retreats, ensuring timely preparation and distribution of meeting materials.
- Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service to the public, responding to inquiries, and resolving issues in a professional and courteous manner.
- Communication: Develop and maintain effective communication channels with Town staff, Council members, and the public, ensuring clear and timely dissemination of information.
- Leadership: Collaborate with the Town Manager and Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement strategic plans, goals, and priorities for the Office of the Town Clerk.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible administrative experience, preferably in municipal government.
- Certification: Certification as a North Carolina Certified Municipal Clerk is strongly preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher; experience with agenda management software, MUNIS, and GRANICUS is desirable.
The Town of Chapel Hill offers a competitive salary range of $89,735 - $116,000, depending on qualifications, and a comprehensive benefits package.
