As a School Therapist, your primary role will be to assist students in achieving success academically, socially, and emotionally. This will be accomplished through individual and group counseling, as well as collaboration with educators, parents, and other professionals to cultivate a safe and supportive learning atmosphere that enhances connections between home and school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating individual and group counseling sessions to address interpersonal or family issues affecting school performance, including crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Conducting interviews with students, families, and school staff to collect essential information for assessing students' social, emotional, and behavioral adaptation to school and community.
  • Maintaining regular communication with students' guardians to update them on progress, challenges, and any home situations that may impact academic performance.
  • Creating and revising Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (PBIP) in compliance with organizational, educational, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Participating in IEP team meetings and contributing to discussions regarding specific student and parent concerns.
  • Collaborating with educational and social service professionals to develop suitable agency services for students and their families.
  • Managing case functions for students, including coordinating parent meetings, emergency transportation requests, and disciplinary actions.
  • Working with teachers, guardians, district personnel, and service providers to identify effective solutions for learning and behavioral challenges while maintaining positive public relations.
  • Ensuring the application of positive teaching methods by observing classroom staff's implementation of IEP goals and PBIPs.
  • Providing guidance and support to educators in developing classroom schedules, maintaining student data systems, and facilitating student transition plans to ensure appropriate curriculum and services.
  • Evaluating student progress through regular review of classroom data and providing necessary training to staff to address student needs.
  • Serving as a role model for effective teaching and communication, reinforcing the organization's commitment to a data-driven, behavior-analytic approach to education.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in educational counseling, therapy, or a related field.
  • Compliance with state and district requirements for school counselor licensing and credentials.
  • Accepted licenses include:
    • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist - LMFT
    • Educational Psychologist
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker - LCSW
    • Licensed Master Social Worker - LMSW
  • Special education certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with students with emotional disorders and challenging behaviors in an educational setting.
  • Experience and knowledge in applied behavior analysis is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a special education program setting is preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication, instruction, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
