About the Salish Sea Institute

The Salish Sea Institute is a research center within Western Washington University that focuses on the conservation and management of the Salish Sea ecosystem. The institute conducts research, teaches courses, and provides educational programs to promote awareness and protection of the Salish Sea.

Job Summary

We are seeking highly qualified individuals to join our pool of temporary non-tenure track faculty members in the Salish Sea Studies program. Successful candidates will teach undergraduate courses in the SALI core curriculum, including 'Introduction to the Salish Sea' lecture and lab courses, and/or other Salish Sea themed topics classes.

Responsibilities
  • Teach face-to-face undergraduate courses in the SALI core curriculum
  • Develop and implement course materials and assessments
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and knowledge
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge relating to the Salish Sea's history, ecology, culture, and management complexities
  • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience in higher education
  • Knowledge and use of learning management systems, such as Canvas

Our compensation package includes a competitive salary range of $1,385-$1,800 per credit hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan options, and paid time off.
