Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Material Handler to join our team at American Electric Power Company, Inc. As a Material Handler, you will be responsible for assisting the Material Services organization by performing duties related to material accountability, operation of the storeroom and storage yards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Issue material under proper authorization and process related records
  • Check received material for quantity and make visual inspections for identity, breakage, and condition
  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions
  • Identify, sort, and record material returned and place usable material in stock
  • Operate computer terminals and printers supporting a materials management system and other office equipment
  • Prepare and pack material for shipment or storage, including preparation of required shipping papers and other related records
  • Operate material handling equipment such as hand trucks, forklift trucks, and hoists
  • Assist supervisor with maintaining efficient storage of materials and rearrangement of bins and racks
  • Assist in maintaining adequate inventory levels based on current requirements through inventory cycle counts
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of one year work experience in inventory control and management, material handling, warehousing, or related experience
  • Basic computer skills to use inventory management software such as Maximo
  • Ability to safely lift up to 70 pounds and operate material handling equipment
  • Strong working knowledge of logistics related to shipping and relocating inventory
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position with a physical demand level of Heavy Work Designation. The position is located onsite at American Electric Power Company, Inc.
