Overview:
The Director of Human Resources is a pivotal leadership position responsible for defining and executing the strategic framework for human resources within the organization. The Director oversees a broad range of functions including recruitment, compliance with equal employment opportunity and ADA regulations, classification, compensation, personnel processing, performance management, training, HRIS, employee relations, benefits administration, and payroll coordination. Collaboration with the Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion is vital to align and promote the organization's diversity initiatives, cultivating an inclusive and equitable workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership and Planning:
    • Formulate and implement a strategic HR plan that aligns with the organization's mission and goals.
    • Lead the enhancement and strategic utilization of the Human Capital Management System to improve operational efficiency and data-informed decision-making.
    • Conduct regular organizational assessments to identify and address HR needs, ensuring the organization remains adaptive and forward-looking.
  • Operational Management:
    • Oversee the comprehensive operations of the Human Resources Department, managing a team of four staff members while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and HR best practices.
    • Evaluate service delivery methods, recommending changes to staffing and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Supervise, mentor, and assess HR staff, promoting professional development and a high-performance culture.
    • Collaborate with external providers to ensure effective delivery of HR services and programs.
  • Policy Development and Compliance:
    • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that support organizational objectives and regulatory compliance.
    • Ensure adherence to equal employment opportunity, ADA, and other relevant regulations.
    • Administer employee benefits and leave programs, ensuring compliance with legal standards and alignment with employee needs.
  • Collaboration and Diversity Initiatives:
    • Partner with the Diversity and Inclusion Vice President to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives throughout the organization.
    • Champion the organization's Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Plans, fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.
  • Training and Staff Development:
    • Lead the creation and implementation of training programs aimed at enhancing staff skills and performance.
    • Encourage a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the HR department and across the organization.
  • Data Management and Analysis:
    • Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to HR functions, ensuring data integrity and leveraging insights for strategic planning.
    • Conduct organizational studies and prepare comprehensive reports to support institutional decision-making.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
    • Participate in the development and management of the HR budget, ensuring prudent resource management.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management, business administration, or a related field; a master's degree is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of seven years of progressive human resources experience, including significant supervisory responsibilities and strategic HR leadership.
  • Demonstrated expertise in diversity and inclusion principles and their practical application within an organizational context.
  • Proven ability to think strategically while effectively managing daily operational responsibilities.
  • Experience in higher education is highly preferred.
