Job Title: Adjunct Faculty - English Instructor

We are seeking a highly qualified Adjunct Faculty - English Instructor to join our team at Southside Virginia Community College. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching English courses to students in a correctional setting.

Job Summary:

The Adjunct Faculty - English Instructor will be responsible for teaching English courses to students in a correctional setting. The instructor will be expected to design and execute effective teaching strategies in a setting without internet access. The instructor will also be responsible for meeting college deadlines and submitting required reporting, including grades, on time.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach English courses to students in a correctional setting
  • Design and execute effective teaching strategies in a setting without internet access
  • Meet college deadlines and submit required reporting, including grades, on time
  • Interact with staff, students, internal and external constituencies in a professional manner
Requirements:
  • Masters degree in English required or a Masters degree in any teaching field and at least 18 credit hours of post graduate study in English
  • Valid drivers license and good driving record
  • Adept knowledge of instructional technologies
  • Excellent interpersonal and native or near-native oral and written English skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior working experience in a community college or other higher education setting
  • Prior working experience in a correctional center
  • Professional experience in PeopleSoft or similar student registration software program
Special Requirements:
  • Satisfactory reference and background checks are a condition of employment
