Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team at Kiewit Corporation. As a key member of our Industrial and Water Engineering group, you will be responsible for leading complex electrical engineering projects and teams in the design and construction of industrial facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare electrical engineering deliverables, including one-lines, layout, design schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment data sheets.
  • Perform complex calculations and apply standards correctly, without supervision.
  • Take a leadership role when working with peers, able to run projects and lead others.
  • Formulate technical specifications and prepare interface points with construction partners.
  • Review electrical requirements for new facilities and project plans, ensuring correct interpretations of industry codes and standards.
  • Lead quality checks of the design and engineering of mid to major-sized projects to ensure accuracy.
  • Perform ETP analysis and simulation, system modeling, protection coordination, reliability studies, load flow studies, and grounding integrity.
  • Utilize SmartPlant for balance of plant electrical systems design.
  • Mentor, train, and guide junior engineers, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes, and Kiewit guidelines.
  • Serve as a resource and subject matter expert for the discipline.
  • Lead projects and other engineers, including in-house inter-discipline engineers and construction partners, to provide clients with the industry's best of both engineering and physical design.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university and EIT license is required.
  • Minimum of 12+ years' experience performing electrical engineering design for industrial facilities.
  • Experience with ETAP Electrical Power System Analysis Software (or similar tool) for simulation/analysis is required.
  • Able to serve as a technical resource, lead a project, and be a point of contact for external or internal customers.
  • Able to lead a team to complete tasks/design on a project, providing mentoring and design guidance to less-experienced engineers.
  • Experience working with a project team as the Engineering Discipline lead and coordinate with other stakeholders in engineering, procurement, and construction on projects.
  • Experience with SmartPlant, or similar electrical/plant software for designing electrical systems or I&C systems in an industrial facility.
  • Develop and present work in a well-constructed manner, with excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to convey ideas and messages succinctly, with a collaborative approach to design and solve problems.
  • PE preferred, or willingness to obtain within one year.
  • Experience with FEED, D/B, EPC designs, familiar with 30/60/90% completion design progression.
  • Experience in field construction or startup and previous experience directing junior engineers is desirable.
  • Experience with power system studies, relay coordination, short circuit load flow, protection, relay coordination, arc flash, low to medium power preferred.
  • Experience with industry codes, guidelines, and standards to include NEC, NFPA, and API.
  • Self-directed, able to work with limited to no supervision.
