Position Overview:
The Clinical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing initial levels of patient testing and administrative duties to support clinical operations within the UNC Healthcare System.
Work Schedule:
Wednesday - Tuesday, 9 PM - 7:30 AM (shifts). This schedule allows for a seven days on, seven days off rotation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide patients in preparation for tests requiring fasting and address any inquiries regarding the tests.
- Ensure equipment is maintained and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
- Assist in training Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, as well as onboarding new staff.
- Oversee daily operations of the laboratory section or designated work area.
- Participate in special projects or assignments, either individually or as part of a team.
- Conduct a variety of routine and standardized tests using established techniques and equipment. Prepare specimens, resolve issues, and perform analytical tests. Label and store specimens appropriately.
- Prepare reagents and assist in the creation of standard and control materials. Monitor reagent levels and help maintain inventory.
- Document test results and maintain accurate records. Report deviations from the norm to the supervisor or ordering physician.
Additional Information:
Education Requirements:
Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
If holding an Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technician, candidates must be ASCP or AMT Board of Certification eligible and must obtain BOC within one year. For those with an Associate's degree in chemical or biological science, Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) Board of Certification (BOC) is required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
No prior experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Successful candidates will demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills relevant to the position.

Standard Hours Per Week: 40.00
Salary Range: $30.02 per hour (Hiring Range). Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity.
