Role Summary
Stephens Memorial Hospital, a vital access healthcare facility nestled in the picturesque western region of Maine, is in search of a seasoned clinical executive to take on the role of Chief Medical Officer for Physician and Advanced Practice Provider Services.
In collaboration with an administrative partner and the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, the Chief Medical Officer will spearhead the formulation of clinical, operational, and financial strategies for the MaineHealth Medical Group at Stephens Memorial Hospital. This role will also involve active participation in regional quality, safety, and regulatory initiatives, alongside efforts in provider recruitment.
The Chief Medical Officer will oversee medical and associate medical directors across five distinct clinical specialties: internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, and general surgery, in addition to managing the Stephens Specialty Clinic, which includes oncology, urology, cardiology, pulmonology, and ENT.
The Chief Medical Officer will report directly to the Regional Vice President of Physician and APP Services, Mountain Region, and will be an integral member of the senior leadership team at Stephens.
Alongside administrative duties, the Chief Medical Officer will maintain a clinical role at Stephens Memorial Hospital, with a strong preference for primary care specialties.
Stephens Memorial Hospital is part of MaineHealth, the largest integrated health system in Maine, comprising leading healthcare providers and organizations dedicated to enhancing community health.
Qualifications
- MD/DO or APP certification from an accredited institution is mandatory.
- Licensure in the state of practice, Federal DEA registration, Medical Staff membership, and relevant clinical privileges are required, along with Board Certification in the respective specialty.
- Proven leadership experience and a distinguished clinical reputation are essential.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities are necessary.
- Strong understanding of healthcare finance and familiarity with practice information technology, preferably Epic.
- Insight into current market trends and the healthcare delivery system is crucial.
- Ability to think strategically while remaining grounded in operational and financial realities is required.
- Demonstrated operational and financial acumen to effectively allocate resources for quality care and service delivery.
- Possesses the political, interpersonal, and organizational skills to navigate a matrix management environment.
- Results-oriented and proactive, with the ability to inspire urgency in others.
