Position Summary

The selected individual will assist in evaluating software and hardware vulnerabilities and their implications for Department of Defense (DoD) systems.

This role involves utilizing expertise to determine the priority for vulnerability remediation and contributing to strategies for mitigation prior to vendor fix releases.

Understanding the lifecycle of network threats, attack vectors, and exploitation methods is essential.

Specialized knowledge in computer network theory and familiarity with IT standards, including the OSI model, is required.


Core Responsibilities
  • Establish communication with vendors regarding newly identified vulnerabilities, ensuring their understanding of DoD information system requirements.
  • Utilize specialized knowledge of vendor products to formulate mitigation orders for identified vulnerabilities.
  • Compile and report daily, weekly, and annual metrics related to vulnerabilities affecting DoD products.
  • Employ tracking tools to manage information for DoD component use and vulnerability compliance monitoring.
  • Create situational awareness materials to inform DoD components about vulnerabilities and suitable mitigation strategies.
  • Identify, assess, and develop remediation actions for system and network vulnerabilities.
  • Prioritize vulnerabilities based on severity, operational impact, and other relevant factors.
  • Conduct open-source research to identify and analyze both known and unknown vulnerabilities.
  • Analyze issues affecting DoD components with vendor-supplied fixes and liaise with vendors for viable solutions.
  • Coordinate with various government and intelligence agencies.
  • Monitor and report potential threats by tracking vulnerabilities and exploits, including the spread of malware.
  • Develop and document operational requirements to enhance capabilities for identifying, tracking, and remediating vulnerabilities, as well as for real-time patch management.
  • Oversee the progress of internal and external organizations to ensure operational requirements are met for government review.
