Job Overview

The Elementary Education Teacher is responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and assessing an instructional program that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This role involves designing learning experiences, monitoring student progress, and presenting information to parents, as well as developing assessments, creating and reinforcing classroom expectations, and working with school administration to prepare students for various assessments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish a safe and supportive learning environment that enables each student to demonstrate agency, ownership, and reflection.
  • Design and implement authentic and engaging learning experiences using the Virginia Standards of Learning, LCPS curriculum, competencies, and strategies to maximize student achievement.
  • Personalize instruction based on the needs of students.
  • Assess student growth as related to educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
  • Adhere to LCPS Assessment and Grading policy and guidelines.
  • Monitor and support student behavior in an instructional setting, and assist in managing student behavior in other parts of the school, playgrounds, and during lunch.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, students, parents, and the community to promote and support student learning.
  • May direct the work of teacher assistants, student teachers, and volunteers to provide an effective learning environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement in an appropriate subject area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of elementary content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications, with excellent human relations skills.
Physical Requirements

The Elementary Education Teacher will be required to regularly talk, express, or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, and will need to possess normal cognitive abilities, including the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. The role will also require frequent sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time, with occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

FLSA status: Exempt

Months/Days/Hours: 10 months, 197 days, 7 hours per day

Salary Level: Licensed
