About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Motorsports Aerodynamics Engineer to join our team at General Motors. As a key member of our aerodynamics team, you will play a critical role in the development and implementation of aerodynamic solutions for our racing vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop aerodynamic features for our racing vehicles.
  • Estimate drag, lift, and other aerodynamic deliverables to optimize vehicle performance.
  • Provide actionable data and insights to our racing teams to improve weekend performance.
  • Support full car and subsystem models for use in detailed aerodynamic tests.
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and execution of wind tunnel tests.
  • Organize test results into concise, presentable reports for decision-making and implementation.
  • Use GM CAD software to generate new aerodynamic concepts and refinements for both CFD and wind tunnel testing.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related subject with coursework in Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, and Fluid Mechanics.
  • 5 or more years of Motorsports experience.
  • Experience with computer tools, 3D CAD files, CAE methods, and experimental data.
  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment, with a talent for organization, collaboration, and communication.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of experimental aerodynamics best practices.
  • Ability to effectively work with others and support team goals.
  • Basic knowledge of scripting and programming.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems, data collection, and data processing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of motorsports race series regulations.
  • Working knowledge of CAD design software (Siemens NX preferred).
  • Experience with the architecture and performance of NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula 1, and LMDh race vehicles.
  • 3+ years of professional aerodynamic research experience.
  • Masters or PhD in mechanical or aerospace/aeronautical engineering.
  • Familiarity with aerodynamic and wind tunnel testing, measurement techniques, and data systems.
