About the Job

At Houston Methodist, we are seeking a skilled Patient Care Assistant to join our Transplant Med/Surg team. As a PCA, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and services under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Your primary responsibilities will include conducting hourly rounding to ensure patient needs are met, recording data established by policy and procedure, and reporting observations and patient problems to the licensed nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • People Essential Functions: Promote a positive work environment with the interprofessional care team, participate in teamwork by responding positively to requests for assistance, and work well with others to make contributions to the work effort as a whole.
  • Service Essential Functions: Follow the patient and family-centered care standards, provide direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse, and document care administered, diagnostic measurements, treatments, and procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Quality/Safety Essential Functions: Report observations, conditions, and problems of patients to licensed personnel to achieve desired patient outcomes, provide for the privacy of patients and families, and conduct hourly rounding to ensure patient needs are met.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent education
  • Must complete one of the following: PCA externship, PCA internal internship, six months of direct patient care experience, or enrolled in a school of nursing program with a completed first clinical rotation
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) and CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant - State Licensure
