Town GIS Analyst Role

The Town of South Windsor is seeking a highly skilled GIS Analyst to join our team. As a GIS Analyst, you will be responsible for managing and leveraging the Town's Geographic Information System (GIS) resources to create GIS data, products, and application solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide vision and direction for the Town's GIS program, promoting GIS effectively as an enterprise solution.
  • Manage and maintain the Town's authoritative GIS database(s) and associated GIS data, ensuring data security, accuracy, integrity, and consistency.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and cross-functional leader in GIS, collaborating with and supporting other Town staff and administrators on all GIS initiatives.
  • Maintain proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS solutions, encompassing ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Mobile, and ArcGIS Online, including ESRI associated tools and products.
  • Design and edit GIS data for numerous projects, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and security.
  • Utilize GIS software to generate maps, geodatabases, graphics, displays, tables, and reports, meeting specific project requirements.
  • Develop and sustain mapping applications, web maps, and similar GIS tools and resources to meet the evolving needs of the Town.
  • Provide comprehensive support to all Town departments in GIS data integration and analysis, offering specialized user service and user training as needed.
  • Manage and prioritize GIS-related projects and budgets, and acting as a liaison between the Town and GIS vendors.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest GIS technology by reading journals, attending conferences, participating in workshops, and taking advantage of all available educational resources.

Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in geographic information systems (GIS), geography, civil engineering, computer science, or a related field, and five (5) years of demonstrable experience working with ESRI ArcGIS software or Associates Degree and seven (7) years of demonstrable experience working with ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • GISP Certification preferred or must be able to obtain it within 1 year of starting position at the Town of South Windsor.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • GIS software, such as ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Digitizing, analysis and data manipulation procedures.
  • GPS terminology and/or GNSS/GPS data collectors.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
