POSITION: Project Manager

DEPARTMENT: Surveyor

WORK SCHEDULE: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., M-F

SALARY: starts at $2,910.69 Biweekly

The incumbent acts as the Project Manager for the Tippecanoe County Surveyor's Office, overseeing the documentation of section corner locations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist in supervising and directing assigned staff, including participating in the recruitment process, planning and delegating work assignments, and providing training and corrective feedback.

2. Oversee field teams in the identification and marking of section corners, which involves determining positions, traveling to sites, excavating, marking, recording reference points, and measuring distances.

3. Conduct field surveys, analyze issues, and ensure the proper marking and preservation of section corners. Research departmental records to ascertain section corner locations. Maintain and update records, maps, and files, including wall maps and card files.

4. Document project outcomes utilizing drafting tools and computer-aided design software. Review the accuracy of drawings prepared by other departmental personnel.

5. Occasionally supervise and investigate drainage complaints, and carry out drainage and other surveys as required.

6. Assist in the preparation and management of the annual departmental budget.

7. Perform related administrative tasks as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

1. Associate Degree in land surveying, engineering, or a closely related field; a Bachelor's Degree is preferred, along with three (3) years of relevant experience, and the ability to obtain certification as an Indiana Registered Land Surveyor.

2. Comprehensive knowledge of drafting, GPS, GIS mapping, and various related software and equipment.

3. Familiarity with state and local regulations regarding Phase II Rule 12, Rule 13, Rule 5, Rule 6, subdivision construction, and drainage projects.

4. Understanding of land surveying principles, county geography, and topographic surveying, with the ability to perform arithmetic calculations and effectively use drafting tools, computer-aided design software, and surveying equipment.

5. Proficient in standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, with the ability to compile data, prepare reports, and operate various office equipment, such as computers, copiers, blueprint machines, drafting tools, and telephones.

6. Ability to assist in supervising and directing assigned personnel, including involvement in the recruitment process, planning and delegating work assignments, and providing training and corrective feedback.

7. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to interact effectively with co-workers, other County departments, contractors, and the public, while being sensitive to professional ethics, cultural diversities, and disabilities.

8. Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of Department information and records in accordance with state requirements.

9. Ability to adhere to all employer and departmental policies and work rules, including attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.

10. Capability to read and interpret detailed prints, specifications, and various property records, such as legal descriptions, aerial, and plat maps.

11. Ability to plan and organize assigned work projects and collaborate effectively in a team environment.

12. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and complete assignments efficiently amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.

13. Possession of a valid driver's license and a demonstrated safe driving record.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The incumbent performs duties in a standard office setting as well as outdoors in the field, which may involve prolonged sitting, standing, and walking on uneven terrain, lifting and carrying objects over 50 pounds, crouching, kneeling, and effective communication. The role may also involve exposure to inclement weather, dust, and dirt.
