PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT

POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, this role involves leading the planning, design, and execution of epidemiological surveillance and evaluation activities at the program level, including conducting epidemiological studies. The position also entails providing guidance and technical expertise to achieve epidemiology program objectives.
VACANCIES
The current openings for Epidemiologist III are within the Alameda County Health, Public Health Department. The resulting eligible list may also be utilized for future vacancies in other departments.
IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
The ideal candidate will not only meet the minimum qualifications but will also demonstrate the following key competencies:
- Expertise in developing comprehensive reports, presentations, and dashboards to inform various stakeholders.

- Solid understanding of epidemiological principles, statistical methods, and public health practices.

- Competence in identifying trends and relationships within diverse data sources.
- Ability to deliver presentations tailored to various audiences, including those disproportionately affected by health inequities.
- Resourcefulness in managing tasks efficiently while prioritizing critical activities.

EITHER I
Experience:
The equivalent of two years of full-time experience as an Epidemiologist II in the Alameda County classified service.
OR II
Education:
Possession of a master's degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, social/behavioral sciences, or a closely related field.
AND
Experience:
The equivalent of four years of full-time, professional-level epidemiology experience, preferably in public health or healthcare settings.
Substitution:
Possession of a Ph.D. or DrPH in a relevant field may substitute for two years of required experience.
License:
Some positions may require a valid California driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Qualified candidates will possess:

- Methods for epidemiological analysis and program evaluation.

- Survey design and public health surveillance principles.
- Lead supervision and project management principles.

THE EXAMINATION WILL INCLUDE:
- A review of applications to verify minimum qualifications.
- A review of Supplemental Questionnaires to identify the best qualified candidates.
- An oral interview weighted as 100% of the final examination score, potentially including situational exercises.
