Position Overview

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will be instrumental in delivering pharmaceutical care directly to patients, ensuring optimal medication management and safety. This role involves providing pharmacokinetics and drug information services, while actively participating in various committees aligned with professional standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Services: Deliver comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to assigned patient areas.
  • Committee Participation: Engage in pharmacy-related committees, including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Medication Evaluation: Assess current medication usage and provide recommendations based on the latest research and medication audits.
  • Safety Initiatives: Contribute to Joint Commission mandates and National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Education and Training: Participate in continuing education and precept pharmacy students and residents.
  • Cost-Containment: Develop and implement annual cost-containment strategies within your area of expertise.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with nursing staff on medication-related initiatives and patient care.
  • Quality Improvement: Coordinate Continuous Quality Improvement measures in your specialty area.
  • Pharmaceutical Care: Execute all aspects of pharmaceutical care, including drug distribution and compounding.
  • Interdisciplinary Engagement: Facilitate interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to program development.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree and completion of a post-graduate residency or fellowship.
  • Eligibility for licensure as a pharmacist in Virginia.
  • CPR certification required within the initial employment period.
  • Three years of hospital experience with advanced clinical responsibilities or equivalent residency experience.
  • Strong independent working capabilities and proficiency with computer systems.
  • Excellent clinical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties.
