Position Summary:
The Trade Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in managing daily trade compliance functions while overseeing compliance programs for our U.S. operations. This role is essential in supporting Trade Compliance management by ensuring adherence to export and import regulations set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce, State, Customs, and other relevant government agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and enforce U.S. trade compliance regulations, policies, and guidelines, along with those of other government agencies.
- Classify goods and data for export and import shipments, ensuring accuracy in trade compliance documentation.
- Utilize the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S. (HTSUS), Schedule B, Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) for proper classification of parts, tooling, software, and technology.
- Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine part function, material composition, and compliance with design origin and engineering changes.
- Collaborate with various departments to develop comprehensive compliance solutions.
- Recommend and implement improvements to compliance processes within the organization.
- Maintain accurate records of import/export classifications, tariff classifications, and U.S. Customs entry and licensing requirements.
- Assist all departments with regulatory compliance inquiries as needed.
- Monitor and oversee compliance procedures related to assigned job functions at both project and program levels.
- Participate in compliance reviews, training sessions, and projects, representing management as required.
- Occasional travel may be necessary.
- Must be a U.S. Person due to ITAR regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, information systems, business, or a related field is preferred, along with knowledge of U.S. trade regulations.
- Familiarity with company policies and procedures to address routine compliance issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with DDTC, BIS, OFAC, and ATF regulations.
- Proficient understanding of ITAR Chapter 22 and the 600 series of the CCL.
- Expertise in commodity jurisdiction and classification determination.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of U.S. export control laws and regulations.
- Understanding of marketing and contract practices within the business unit.
- Familiarity with product lines offered by the business unit.
- Experience in delivering formal presentations and conducting training on legal and procedural requirements.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Advanced customer service experience in a manufacturing context, particularly in aerospace and defense.
- Experience in forecasting and tracking performance metrics.
- Background in sales and marketing, especially within the aerospace and defense sector.
Ability to read and interpret various documents, including safety rules, operating instructions, and government regulations.
Computer Proficiency:
Must be adept at using computers and relevant software applications as required by the role.
