Job Overview

The Waste Collection Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Driver by ensuring efficient and courteous waste disposal services for residents along a designated route. This position involves safely collecting waste from containers and transporting it to the vehicle for proper disposal. The Assistant also aids the Driver in navigating the vehicle by providing ground-level direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accompany the Driver on the vehicle to assist with waste collection for residential clients.
  • Efficiently load refuse and waste containers onto the vehicle; lift and transport trash bags and other items.
  • Operate the vehicle's packing mechanism and related controls to facilitate waste loading.
  • Guide the Driver in safely maneuvering the vehicle from the ground.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and the surrounding area after each disposal trip.
  • Engage courteously with customers and team members to ensure timely and professional service.
  • Monitor waste for any unacceptable items and address issues as they arise.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed, especially in the event of accidental spills.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency of operations.
Qualifications

Safety Focus: Prioritize a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.

  • Maintain awareness of safe practices both on the vehicle and during operations.
  • Assist the Driver with safe backing and operational awareness.

Cleanliness Standards: Uphold cleanliness in all work areas.

  • Ensure the vehicle's interior and exterior, including all access points, are kept clean.
  • Proactively clean any debris that may fall from the vehicle during operations.

Professionalism: Represent the company with integrity and professionalism.

  • Adhere to uniform and personal protective equipment standards.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with customers and the public.
