  • Job Summary: As a Lead Surgical Technologist at Cleveland Clinic Health System, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest quality patient care during surgical procedures. You will oversee the activities of assigned Surgical Technologists, monitor and maintain a sterile field, and collaborate with the surgical team to ensure a smooth and efficient operation.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    1. Monitor, direct, and oversee the activities of assigned Surgical Technologists in the operating room.
    2. Perform duties of a Surgical Technologist as needed, including preparing sterile fields, passing instruments to surgeons, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
    3. Collaborate with the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses, to ensure a safe and efficient surgical environment.
    4. Assist in the circulating role as needed, providing support to the surgical team during procedures.
    5. Provide patient care in the operating room, ensuring the highest level of safety and comfort for patients.
    6. Collaborate with the Sterile Processing Department to maintain instruments and specialty trays, ensuring they are clean, sterile, and ready for use.
    7. Provide performance documentation, including feedback and coaching to assigned Surgical Technologists.
    8. Assume department leadership in the absence of the supervisor, ensuring continuity of care and maintaining a high level of service.
  • Requirements:
    1. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification or equivalent.
    2. Surgical Technology Program accredited through CAAHEP or ABHES required. Completion of military surgical technology program will meet the requirements of an accredited Surgical Technology Program. Certification as a Surgical Technologist waives the educational requirement for hire. Acceptable certifications for this route are TS-C (through the National Center for Competency Training) or CST (through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting).
    3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
    4. One year of experience in a Surgical Technologist role for internal caregivers, or two years of experience in a Surgical Technologist role for external caregivers.
