At the New York Blood Center, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Technologist to join our team in Rye, New York.

Job Summary:

The Lead Technologist will be responsible for supervising and overseeing the day-to-day shift activities and workflow in the laboratory. This includes leading and providing feedback to assigned staff, ensuring laboratory SOPs and regulations are followed, and performing patient testing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the supervision of and overseeing the day-to-day shift activities and workflow in the laboratory.
  • Lead and provide feedback to assigned staff.
  • Ensure laboratory SOPs, practices, policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations are followed.
  • Triage and perform patient testing.
  • Assure optimal product inventory and place product orders for internal and external requests during shifts.
  • Perform platelet antibody screen and crossmatching.
  • Perform or delegate quality control on automated hematology analyzer.
  • Assign work based on priority and shift conditions and review logs and recap reports on a daily basis.
  • Ensure smooth transition from shift to shift.
  • Makes recommendations to improve business unit operations.
  • Work on-call as necessary.
  • Work OT to cover shifts and holidays.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in clinical laboratory technology, or
  • Bachelor's or higher degree from a program with a major in biology, chemistry, or the physical sciences, and an advanced certificate in clinical laboratory technology, or
  • Education and training sufficient to qualify for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist prior to 2009 as specified in NYS-ED Regulation
Experience:

If bachelor's degree with at least four years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying of which at least two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level.

If master's degree with at least two years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying of which at least two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level.

Pursuant to New York Codes, Rules and Regulations, Title 10 Section Qualifications of Laboratory Supervisor (c), there is no substitute for the experience criteria.

Licenses/Certifications:

NY State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License

For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed hiring rate is $61.03p/hr.

For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant's skills, job-related knowledge, and experience
