About This Opportunity

Sigma Technologies, a leading engineering and design firm, is seeking a skilled Power Distribution Field Technician to join our team. As a Field Technician, you will play a crucial role in collecting accurate utility data, inspecting infrastructure, and ensuring the reliability of power distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field surveys and inspections of power distribution systems
  • Collect data on utility poles, transformers, and other infrastructure using industry-standard techniques
  • Utilize GIS software and other tools to map and analyze field data
  • Collaborate with internal Project Management, Engineering and Design staff to ensure project success
  • Adhere to safety protocols and industry standards
  • Interact with customers to perform walkout kickoff/scope meetings and/or to assist in the preparation of bid documentation
  • Perform research to identify pole ownership, right of way, property rights, and permit requirements for proposed projects
  • Communicate with outside parties to obtain right-of-way approvals and easements
  • Provide guidance to others for specific duties in software, processes, and procedures
  • Provide quality control review
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior experience is preferred, but not required
  • The ability to read and comprehend engineering schematics is preferred
  • Knowledge of construction and planning procedures
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to work in all weather conditions
  • A willingness to travel overnight during the week as necessary
  • Dependable transportation and valid driver's license and insurance that meets our minimum requirements
  • The ability to pass a background check/drug test/driving record check
  • Being computer literate and comfortable using programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to endure frequent/lengthy: Driving, standing, walking long distances (5 miles or more in a day), navigating rough terrain on foot, and lifting/balancing objects that may weigh up to ~40 lbs. and require the use of upper extremities and back muscles; work in proximity to moving vehicles in the right of way.
  • Must be able to endure sitting for prolonged periods of time, including driving in a vehicle.
  • Must have the physical ability to perform activities such as visually identifying, inspecting, and measuring objects as well as transcribing notes in proximity to moving vehicles in the right of way; these activities require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have the physical ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, often in a group setting.
  • Must have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
