Role Overview

The Senior Catastrophe Risk Manager will spearhead, assist, and implement catastrophe risk management initiatives and projects in collaboration with relevant teams within the organization. This position will be responsible for designing and executing projects and solutions to address catastrophe risk-related business challenges. Alongside the team, the manager will propose solutions to business inquiries and track project progress.

Compensation Information

Position Compensation Range: $109,000.00 - $186,000.00

Pay Rate Type: Salary

Compensation may vary based on job level and geographic work location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhances and refines the framework for utilizing catastrophe risk management software for data entry, model configuration, model execution, result extraction, and loss analysis.
  • Facilitates discussions with business partners to ascertain their requirements and propose relevant initiatives.
  • Leads the development of dashboards to deliver insights into catastrophe exposure growth utilizing outputs from catastrophe models.
  • Utilizes portfolio and underwriting tools to evaluate peril exposures beyond traditional catastrophe vendor models, including but not limited to wildfire, flood, and sinkhole.
  • Translates complex catastrophe loss results into practical applications for business needs, including support for DOI filings.
  • Creates analytical tools, reports, and data to comprehend the effects of natural disasters on the enterprise's operations, employing various geospatial analysis techniques.
  • Oversees the evaluation of newer versions of catastrophe management software and models while exploring industry best practices and strategies in earth science technologies.
  • Participates in selecting research tools and technologies, designing a unified research process, and brainstorming new opportunities and methodologies related to earth science.
  • Maintains awareness of industry best practices and business strategies through ongoing research.
  • Proactively introduces innovative ideas and approaches to enhance business development.
  • May be assigned additional tasks or projects based on skills, achievements, or experience.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in delivering customer-focused solutions, support, or services.
  • Advanced understanding of catastrophe management software and peril models.
  • Strong knowledge of natural catastrophe risk and its application within the insurance sector and catastrophe modeling.
  • Solid understanding of earth science and property insurance for conducting complex financial, actuarial, or business analyses.
  • Familiarity with geospatial software tools and data.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and communicate proficiently.
  • Proficiency in programming languages suitable for database access, scripting, and statistical analysis.
  • Experience in managing large volumes of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex products and/or lines of business.
  • Experience in making independent decisions and applying project management methodologies and techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading discussions with various team members.
