Position Overview

Under moderate supervision, the role involves utilizing professional and technical expertise in ultrasound for medical diagnostics and patient evaluations. Responsibilities include executing both clinical and research protocols.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Current ARDMS certification in Adult Echocardiography or completion of an accredited ultrasound or cardiovascular technology program with verified clinical experience in Echocardiography.
  • Programs must be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
  • New employees are required to pass the ARDMS or CCI credentialing exam within one year of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited course by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is mandatory.
  • One year of experience in cardiovascular sonography is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhances patient throughput and satisfaction during the testing process.
  • Reviews physician's orders and patient charts, verifying patient identity through two methods.
  • Clearly explains procedures to patients while ensuring their privacy.
  • Safely transports patients and reviews their medical history and clinical diagnosis.
  • Positions patients to ensure optimal test results and utilizes appropriate equipment during procedures.
  • Monitors patients for any signs of complications and promptly informs medical staff of any changes in status.
  • Accurately performs ultrasound procedures, including Cardiac Doppler and pharmacological echo studies.
  • Continuously learns new modalities as they become available and strives for the best image quality.
  • Identifies normal and abnormal anatomical structures and physiological functions.
  • Archives and retrieves studies, ensuring proper care of digital echo systems.
  • Maintains accurate logs of procedures for billing purposes and ensures timely reporting.
  • Acts as an effective advocate for patients and addresses any complaints in a professional manner.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives and attends mandatory educational sessions.
  • Collaborates with all staff and supports new team members.
