GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The Registered Nurse (RN) serves as a vital provider of patient care.
This role encompasses a range of nursing responsibilities, including thorough assessment of patients for any changes in their medical or nursing condition, under the guidance of a Medical Doctor.
The RN delivers care to adults recovering from various types of head injuries, as well as other potential injuries.
The RN is tasked with overseeing and documenting the medical and nursing requirements of patients until their discharge.Key responsibilities include observing and recording patient behavior, serving as a role model, engaging with patients, training staff in patient care, ensuring safety, and reinforcing treatment protocols and organizational policies.
The RN is expected to uphold the mission, philosophy, and objectives of the organization while strictly maintaining confidentiality regarding personnel and client information.
The RN will act as a communication link between the Medical Director, Program Director, Clinical Team, and the Residential Department.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Deliver specified nursing services as required by patients at Moody Neuro.
Assess, monitor, intervene, document, and report on patients' social interactions and their ability to function independently within the community.
Implement behavior modification recommendations and provide necessary documentation to the clinical team.
Assist in emergency situations, including executing fire drills and providing first aid as needed, adhering to triage protocols.
When accompanying patients on outings, act as the medical supervisor as required.
Document observations of client responses during outings as necessary.
Serve as a consistent role model for both patients and residential staff.
Participate in in-services, workshops, staff meetings, and seminars as instructed.
Maintain confidentiality regarding both client and staff matters.
Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.
Carry out discharge responsibilities in line with organizational policies and relevant accrediting bodies.
Ensure that the training and orientation of residential staff is completed successfully as directed by the Medical Director or Program Director.
Verify that RN delegation for medication administration aligns with the requirements of accrediting and licensing agencies.
Schedule and administer initial TB tests for new employees and patients, documenting results and conducting annual tests.
Conduct drug screenings for new hires or follow-up screenings as directed by the Program Director.
Coordinate external medical appointments assigned by the Medical Director for admitted patients.
Perform other duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain comprehensive medical documentation, including medication monitoring sheets, incident reports, and medical consultations.
Act as a therapeutic liaison between the Medical Director, Program Director, and staff.
Adhere to security protocols as per organizational policies.
Keep accurate records of on-call activities for timekeeping purposes.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Current Texas state RN license.
Knowledge of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and related conditions.
Ability to collaborate effectively with others in a clinical environment.
Capacity to motivate individuals facing challenges with motivation.
Understanding of social customs and responsibilities.
Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and sound judgment.
Ability to accurately follow and execute instructions.
Awareness of philosophical and ethical considerations in rehabilitation practices.
Ability to meet CPR certification standards.
Proficient in documenting accurate and relevant information.
Ability to implement emergency procedures related to fire drills, evacuations, and triage.
Willingness to work rotating shifts and hours.
Ability to assist patients with transfers to and from wheelchairs.
Ability to obtain NCI certification.
EDUCATION:
Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
Possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas.
Current CPR certification required.
Valid Texas driver's license required.
EXPERIENCE:
Preferred two years of post-graduate nursing experience, particularly in rehabilitation, cognitive deficits, or mental health.
