Job Summary

We seek an experienced and dynamic leader to serve as our Chief Advancement Officer. This role will be responsible for creating, leading, and implementing an integrated fundraising strategy across UpStart's programs, building new and maintaining existing relationships to drive UpStart's visibility, impact, strategic partnerships, and financial resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to grow contributed revenue generation, including major gifts, institutional giving, and individual giving.
  • Build and maintain relationships with major donors, foundations, and other stakeholders to drive revenue growth and diversification.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a revenue diversification plan, including earned income models and other innovative approaches.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Team to execute strategic plans and lead a high-performing team toward ambitious development and communication goals.
  • Oversee the UpStart Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, an advisory body providing strategic insight and guidance to UpStart.
  • Develop and maintain an external-facing crisis communication plan to address and manage potential issues.
Requirements
  • Passion and commitment to UpStart's mission and vision.
  • C-suite level professional experience driving significant philanthropic revenue generation.
  • Experience managing significant major donors and foundations, building multi-year pipelines toward strategic revenue goals.
  • Demonstrated success in thinking creatively and strategically about revenue diversification.
  • Strong writing skills, excellent attention to detail, and ability to refine and adjust systems and tools for development operations.
  • Culturally competent regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion, able to have difficult and effective conversations about race and equity.
