Patient Registration Specialist

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Registration Specialist to join our team at Nicklaus Children's Health System. As a Patient Registration Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring a smooth and efficient registration process for patients, while providing exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities- Obtain demographic, third-party payer, financial, and medical information to schedule or register patients for services.
- Verify third-party payer information and request authorization for hospital and physician services.
- Communicate with patients and families to ensure a positive experience and resolve any issues that may arise.
- Document all activities in the computer system, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
- Obtain necessary consents from patients and direct families to the appropriate location in the facility.
- Verify patients are accompanied by a legal guardian and notify Risk Management if necessary.
- Notify and educate patients and families of financial responsibility and document collections in the hospital system.
- Communicate with other departments to accommodate special needs and resolve any issues that may arise.
- Obtain and validate prescriptions as necessary.
- Place and monitor patients arriving for outpatient services using the patient tracking system.
- Correct registration errors using the QA system and scan documents to the appropriate folder in the PEDS system.
- Schedule hospital and physician services as necessary.
- Triage incoming facility inquiries and route them to the appropriate department.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- 1 year of customer service experience.
- High school education or equivalent.
- 1 year of experience in a healthcare environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to accurately enter and interpret data.
- Ability to adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions.
- Ability to serve customers with courtesy and respect.
- Ability to learn and use system-wide hospital applications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to follow complex written or verbal instructions to solve problems.
- Ability to establish necessary professional relationships and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
- Ability to effectively manage and use resources to meet competing deadlines.
