Position Overview

The Advanced Emergency Care Provider is accountable for delivering comprehensive patient care aligned with their designated role and approved population focus, which may include Family/Individual across lifespan, Adult/Gerontology, Neonatal, Pediatrics, Women's Health/Gender Related, and Psychiatric Mental Health. This involves systematic assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, and follow-up related to direct patient care.

Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient demographic served, along with an understanding of growth and development principles relevant to various life stages.

Minimum Qualifications

Advanced Practice Nurse / Nurse Practitioner

Education: Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the State of Texas; a Master's degree is required.

Specialties may include: CRNA, CNM, CNS, CNP.

Must hold a valid nursing license in Texas and possess licensure as an APRN with eligibility for full prescriptive authority.

Certification from a recognized national board in the area of population focus and/or additional specialty recognition is required.

Eligibility for DEA licensure is necessary, along with Basic or Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Physician Assistant

Education: Graduate of a nationally accredited Physician Assistant program; a Master's degree is strongly preferred.

Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants is required, along with licensure by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.

Eligibility for DEA licensure is necessary, along with Basic or Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills

A minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in the relevant practice area is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Provides health promotion, assessment, diagnosis, and management of patient issues, which includes the prescription of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the health continuum.

Acts under the delegation of a supervising physician for prescriptive authority, maintaining an active Prescriptive Authority agreement in compliance with regulations and policies.

Practices within established protocols, guidelines, and clinical pathways, utilizing evidence-based medicine.

Facilitates transitions between inpatient and outpatient settings, directing and evaluating throughput, and providing backup assistance as needed.

Ensures accurate billing, coding, and documentation, completing medical records and submitting charges promptly.

Responsible for overall unit performance in collaboration with physicians and other providers.

Obtains medical histories, conducts physical examinations, reviews and interprets diagnostic tests and radiographic results, formulates and manages patient treatment plans, and performs procedures within the legal scope and authority.

Collaborates in the development and evaluation of patient care, updates clinical guidelines, and works autonomously while accepting accountability for outcomes.

Utilizes effective communication skills to educate patients and families on care resources, participating in process improvement and multidisciplinary clinical outcome initiatives.

Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary constraints.

Promotes individual professional growth by meeting mandatory and continuing education requirements, supporting departmental goals that contribute to organizational success, and serving as a mentor and resource for less experienced staff.
