Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Equipment Systems Application Engineer I to join our team at Johnson Controls International. As a key member of our construction sales team, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-sales activities for building systems and equipment project opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and guidance to account executives during project design and proposal phases, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of equipment and services.
  • Develop and maintain detailed cost estimates and scopes of work for assigned projects, working closely with sales teams to ensure customer satisfaction and project financial results.
  • Prepare customer proposals and quote letters, including project takeoffs, specification reviews, and special quote generation.
  • Support account executives in becoming the basis of design through timely selections, specifications, sequences, drawings, and review of documents.
  • Manage project profit and loss (P&L) and customer satisfaction for all assigned projects, utilizing the Johnson Controls equipment order execution process.
  • Work closely with management and administration to coordinate backlog execution, schedule, and forecast execution of equipment projects up to two years in advance.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to develop and provide engineered equipment submittals, ensuring compliance with contract documents and site coordination requirements.
  • Verify that Johnson Controls has an approved equipment submittal and positive configuration acceptance by the installing contractor prior to releasing equipment for fabrication.
  • Evaluate the contractual scope of supply and the impact of client-issued bulletins, field directives, and/or scheduling changes, coordinating project schedule with the customer to ensure timely release of equipment.
  • Work to maximize additional change orders, performing associated cost estimates, preparing proposals, and negotiating final settlement prices and customer acceptance.
  • Coordinate the factory equipment order process to ensure technical and commercial compliance with contract documents and site coordination requirements.
  • Select, order, and track the delivery of materials and equipment for assigned projects, coordinating shipping processes to meet factory and project schedule requirements.
  • Effectively communicate project progress, issues, and financial status to management as required.
  • Review vendor invoices for technical and commercial compliance prior to directing the Customer Operations Associate to approve payment.
  • Coordinate post-shipment services, including start-up initiation and solutions to delivery, shipping, or scope omission problems.
  • Visit customer sites as required to ensure delivery and receipt of critical equipment is following the expectations of Johnson Controls, the customer, and the owner.
  • Ensure project documentation is compliant with contract requirements, Johnson Controls standards, and the formal Johnson Controls equipment order execution process.
  • Periodically answer engineered equipment and controls application questions from potential customers and other sales channels.
  • Develop and maintain viable long-term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors, and subcontractors, attending job progress meetings as required.
  • Coordinate customer-training requirements with local Johnson Controls service teams.
  • Ensure that all customer requirements in regard to billing are clearly communicated to the Customer Operations Associate.
  • Assist the Customer Operations Associate with any collection issues related to the scope delivery to ensure Johnson Controls receives payment in full.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, project management, or equivalent.
  • Computer skills experience to include Microsoft Office suite, with emphasis on Word, Excel, and Visio, Adobe Writer, and basic Windows operating system environment.
  • AutoCAD experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with both internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage a large and diverse number of projects with professionalism, cooperation, and persistence.
