About the Role

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) will be based in San Antonio, Texas, and will work under the general supervision of a Lab Manager at a partner facility. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including performing clinical laboratory procedures, labeling and preparing specimens for send-outs, inventory management, and other administrative tasks. The MLT will work closely with various Clinical staff and Genalyte R&D staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform sample processing for send-out tests, including use of the Laboratory Information System, sample labeling, sample centrifugation, and sample aliquoting as necessary or as directed.
  • Conduct moderate and high complexity level testing as described by CLIA.
  • Organize work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling, sorting specimens, checking labeling, logging specimens, arranging reports for delivery, and maintaining a clean and orderly workspace.
  • Ensure the operation of instrumentation by calibrating instruments, performing daily maintenance, following manufacturer's instructions, and troubleshooting minor issues.
  • Maintain laboratory supply inventory in conjunction with personnel responsible for clinical laboratory inventory management.
  • Participate in staff training and answer questions from other professionals.
  • Perform tasks related to research and/or clinical trial studies as requested by intra-department managers. Work with all departments to create and/or modify methods and procedures.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers by following established standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations, and keeping laboratory information confidential.
  • Serve and protect the clinical community by adhering to professional standards, clinic policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Clinic standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, quality systems, and procedures.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in Medical Technology or a related field with MLT Certification and at least 2 years of experience (an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered).
  • Licensed by the state of California as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), meeting the minimum required coursework in biological science, chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunology, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and physics; and recommended courses in parasitology and clinical chemistry.
  • Strong knowledge of CLIA regulations and regulatory procedures.
  • Working familiarity with CAP certification and proficiency programs.
  • Ability to work successfully within a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects accurately and efficiently with attention to details.
  • Proficient computer skills and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
