Automation Technician Job Description

At Advantage Technical, we're seeking a skilled Automation Technician to join our team in Austin, TX. As an Automation Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting automation engineering services activities, including hardware and software design and development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain continuous system operation by adjusting, repairing, replacing, or modifying automation/robotic system components.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and components and return to serviceability.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance actions on all subsystems and related components.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance of robotic and process support equipment are completed on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of PLCs.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical diagrams, and complex automated system drawings.
  • Analyze engineering test results and implement changes to resolve problems.
  • Collaborate with the automation team in the qualification process of automated systems.
  • Record procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or method.
  • Maintain software, documentation, and equipment to the latest revision or operational specifications.
  • Assist engineers in developing and designing hardware and software required for all automation solutions per specifications.
  • Train other technicians and operators on products, processes, and equipment.
  • Properly use power tools and measuring equipment.
  • Demonstrate strong awareness of safety protocols.
Specialized Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist with customer presentations and interfaces with customers.
  • Assist engineers with outside third-party automation developments.
  • Organize documentation (specifications, schematics, and procedures).
Requirements:
  • Typically requires an Associate's degree, military training, equivalent vocational training, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ability to conduct on-the-job training and/or lead/guide other employees.
  • Requires little to no instruction and supervision.
