Position Overview: Controller

We are in search of a skilled and meticulous Controller to manage all facets of financial oversight, which encompasses corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget preparation, and the establishment of internal control policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), direct-to-consumer (D2C) finance/accounting, and inventory management, along with exceptional analytical abilities to excel in a dynamic environment. Proficiency with NetSuite, audit processes, and payroll management is crucial.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
  • Supervise a team comprising a Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant, and Accounting Associate, while collaborating with an Accounting Consulting team.
  • Manage and execute cash transactions effectively.
  • Assist the interim CFO in budget formulation and financial forecasting, while reporting variances.
  • Prepare and disseminate timely monthly financial statements.
  • Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Engage actively in the monthly closing activities.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax obligations.
  • Oversee Sales Tax calculations, collections, and remittances across all operational jurisdictions.
  • Manage internal and external audits conducted by CBIZ and banks.
  • Research and resolve technical accounting issues to ensure compliance.
  • Process payroll using Gusto, including 401(k), HSA, garnishments, and payroll journal entries.
  • Review and adjust inventory as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Sales team on Sales and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reviews.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to enhance internal controls.
  • Adapt to changes with a new management team in 2024.
  • Optimize and maintain the NetSuite/Celigo accounting system to enhance financial reporting and processes, including managing additional Celigo connector implementations.
  • Perform additional controller duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of experience as a Controller.
  • Experience in CPG and inventory management is preferred.
  • Over ten years of combined experience in accounting and finance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • CPA certification is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience in preparing financial statements.
  • Familiarity with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end closing process.
  • Proficient in NetSuite/Celigo accounting software.
  • Strong audit experience.
  • Experience in payroll administration.
  • Excellent skills in accounting software usage and administration.
  • High attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
