Advanced Drive Systems Engineer
Geartrain Design Engineers in Tesla's Drive Systems Engineering Team are responsible for designing, releasing, and launching geartrain components for Tesla vehicle product lines. You will be part of the team that creates and executes world-class drive units in terms of performance, cost, and manufacturability for Tesla Semi Truck.
The responsibilities include developing concepts for geartrain-related components to minimize part count, cost, and complexity in the drive unit. This involves designing and analyzing geartrain components, including rotating shafts, gears, differentials, torque split devices, couplings, and clutches. Additionally, you will design, coordinate, and execute system-level and component-level tests for performance, durability, reliability, and variability.
You will also be responsible for risk assessment, root cause analysis, and problem resolution for failures of geartrain components in validation tests. Furthermore, you will provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams (manufacturing, production, quality, supply chain, and service) through the entire development and life cycle of drive unit products.
Key skills and qualifications for this role include experience in rotating machinery design, analysis, tests, and failure analysis. Understanding of bearings, gears, and gearbox lubrication is also essential. Experience with differentials, actuators, clutches, axle disconnect systems, or multi-speed transmissions is highly desirable.
A deep understanding of ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing application to part drawings and function is required. Expertise in 3D modeling within a product development environment, preferably using CATIA, is also necessary. Experience in CAE analysis software packages like Ansys, Abaqus, Hyperworks, and Romax is highly valued.
As a successful candidate, you will have experience of launching automotive designs from concept through release and production or equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
Compensation and BenefitsTesla offers a competitive salary package, which includes an estimated annual salary range of $104,000-$204,000, depending on individual factors such as location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to the base salary, you will also receive cash and stock awards, as well as comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and employee discounts.
