We are seeking a skilled Welder to join our team at Ducommun. As a key member of our manufacturing team, you will be responsible for laying out, fitting, and welding parts according to specifications.
Key Responsibilities- Read and follow work order instructions to ensure accurate and efficient production.
- Interpret welding blueprints and understand welding symbols to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Select and operate equipment to plan layout, assembly, and welding of parts.
- Bolt, clamp, and tack weld parts to secure them in position for welding.
- Position parts in jigs or fixtures on tables or floors, or clamp parts together along layout marks.
- Adjust welding units to obtain the correct amperage, voltage, slope, and/or pulse as specified by work orders or joint welding procedures.
- Perform related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
- Repair broken or cracked parts/tools according to rework instructions.
- Examine work periodically to verify that deposited welds and pertinent dimensions are within specified limits.
- Clean and degrease weld joints when necessary prior to depositing welds.
- Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed.
- Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane/hoist.
- Ability to read and understand internal procedures and policies.
- Ability to understand and follow through on both verbal and written instructions.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills to learn new screens, reports, functions, and simple software programs with assistance.
- High School Diploma; up to 3 years related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One-year certificate from college or technical school preferred.
- Welding certification testing completed or skills or capabilities to become certified within a reasonable period of time.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and basic computer knowledge and skills.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance.
- Annual eye exam is required.
- Must be able to communicate effectively.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Working conditions are 100% manufacturing environment.
- Occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme cold and extreme heat.
- Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
- Welding hood must be worn/down at all times while welding.
- Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.
- Hearing protection must be worn in designated areas.
- Safety Footwear shall be in accordance with the following: ASTM standard F with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance, and metatarsal designation ratings of 75 foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear.
