POSITION SUMMARY

The Communication Specialist is accountable for delivering safe and effective speech-language pathology and dysphagia interventions. This role involves executing suitable assessments, therapeutic strategies, and educational initiatives tailored to address the specific communication and swallowing requirements of patients.

Effective and professional communication with patients, families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members is essential. The role emphasizes the importance of collaboration and teamwork.


DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Rehabilitation teams at Samaritan Health Services are dedicated to assessing and treating individuals with injuries or conditions that have led to a decrease in self-care, physical mobility, or functional independence.

The speech therapy teams focus on evaluating and treating patients facing challenges with speech articulation, language comprehension, vocalization, swallowing, and cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and problem-solving.

Care is provided to both adult and pediatric patients across a diverse range of diagnoses in various settings, including acute care and outpatient services.

Therapists maintain continuity of care from initial assessment through to discharge, fostering collaboration with other healthcare professionals and managing treatment schedules independently.


EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

A current, unencumbered license in Speech-Language Pathology from the state of Oregon is mandatory.

A Certificate of Clinical Compliance from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, or active participation in a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY), is required.

Willingness to travel to various care locations is essential.

Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Therapeutic Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of principles, methodologies, and procedures for diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating physical and cognitive conditions.

Communication Skills: Proficient in both written and verbal communication, capable of articulating complex issues, sharing information among team members, and engaging in constructive discussions.

Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, fostering constructive and cooperative relationships over time.

Time Management: Competence in organizing, planning, and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines while managing multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

The role may involve various physical activities, including but not limited to:
