POSITION SUMMARY

The Practical Nursing Specialist plays a vital role in facilitating patient care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Under the guidance of Registered Nurses, this role involves directing and supporting patient education activities based on qualifications and demonstrated competencies.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

In collaboration with Registered Nurses, assists in evaluating the physical, psychological, and social aspects of patients in the Health Care Unit and, as necessary, in the Housing Units.
Contributes to the development of individualized treatment plans by leveraging available resources and consulting with registered nurses, physicians, and correctional staff. Participates in the execution of individual treatment plans in both the Health Care Unit and housing unit as needed. Applies clinical and technical care procedures in alignment with established policies and protocols. Administers medications and interventions according to physician directives as part of the medical plan. Records nursing interactions, patient responses, treatment effectiveness, and complications, ensuring communication with supervisory personnel and physicians as per physician orders. Utilizes in-house resources and departments for treatment and consultation. Maintains patient dignity and confidentiality at all times. Monitors vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure. Handles dressing applications and changes. Ensures the emotional and physical comfort and safety of patients. Assists with daily living activities, emphasizing their therapeutic significance. Maintains cleanliness and organization of working and living areas and supplies. Functions as a member of a nursing care and treatment team. Supports the orientation of new staff members. Assists physicians as assigned. Supervises inmates in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the environment. Performs other duties as assigned or required. The responsibilities outlined are for payroll purposes; employees may be assigned additional duties as necessary.

Medical Unit within a correctional facility.

Job Requirements:

TRAVEL: None

LICENSING: Current state LPN license

CERTIFICATION: Current CPR certification

EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited nursing program

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of clinical experience
