Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Radiology Extern III to join our team at Methodist Hospitals. As a Radiology Extern III, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our radiology department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care: Provide direct patient care in areas of radiology and cardiology, working under the supervision of a registered/licensed professional or designated preceptor.
  • Support to the Department: Assist in extending high-quality care to our patients, observing and performing proficient exams/scans/procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Communication: Interact with patients, physicians, and co-workers in a professional manner, adhering to the Methodist Mode of Care and Conduct.
  • Teamwork: Participate in planning and arranging work as a team member, providing a variety of care in a fast-paced environment.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate specialized equipment, utilizing necessary technique and accessories to produce optimal image quality.
  • Safety Procedures: Implement all safety procedures when working with equipment, practicing sterile technique when required.
  • Transportation: Transport or aid in transporting patients to/from designated locations, preparing them for exams, scans, or procedures.
  • Post-Processing: Follow procedure for post-processing of images, assisting the technologist in acquiring STAT readings when needed.
  • Technology Utilization: Learn how to process a patient through the hospital and radiology information system, utilizing the PACS system properly.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and safe working environment, checking and testing equipment prior to use.
  • Communication: Answer department phone when necessary, aiding the department in patient, nurse, and physician communications.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge and Skills: Possess knowledge of radiology treatment modes and therapeutics, with related equipment experience. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Discretion and Integrity: Demonstrate high levels of discretion, integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism in activities.
  • Problem-Solving: Utilize logical problem-solving skills within the hospital setting, following established policies and procedures.
  • Teamwork and Flexibility: Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating flexibility in meeting unanticipated demands and priorities.
  • Education and Experience: Possess a degree or diploma from a recognized College or University, with relevant coursework or experience in radiology or a related field.
  • Certifications and Licensures: Hold a valid CPR-BLS certification and, if applicable, an Indiana Radiology Student License for those working in areas with radiation.
