About the Organization:

The Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC) of Montgomery County was founded to address the critical need for affordable housing in the area. HOC has the authority to acquire, manage, and operate housing facilities, as well as to facilitate the construction or renovation of housing projects. The organization also seeks financial support from various public and private sources to enhance its housing initiatives and provide essential social services.

Position Overview:

This role represents an entry-level professional position in accounting, focusing on the analysis and preparation of financial and budgetary documents and reports.

An individual in this role will undertake professional accounting tasks that necessitate careful analysis and the selection of appropriate actions. The work primarily involves routine assignments such as processing journal entries, reconciling accounts, managing billing, and preparing financial statements. While there is supervisory oversight, the employee is expected to work independently and competently manage their accounting responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compile accounting data for posting to general ledger accounts from subsidiary records.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Analyze financial statements and prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Monitor and evaluate daily cash receipts and wires, resolving any coding issues and addressing inquiries from staff and external agencies.
  • Prepare bank deposits for various accounts.
  • Generate journal entries for all deposits and wire transfers.
  • Compile monthly journal entries for ZBA, Security Deposit, and Replacement for Reserve.
  • Make necessary corrections to the general ledger.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: At least one year of experience in an accounting role.

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited institution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Fundamental understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with governmental regulations and laws governing accounting activities.
  • Ability to learn about inter-company reconciliation processes.
  • Proficiency in computerized accounting systems and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong analytical skills to organize and interpret financial data effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
