This Certified Nurse Anesthetist (APN) position is located in the Surgical service line within the Providence VA Medical Center in Rhode Island.

The successful candidate will provide perioperative anesthetic care to patients presenting for surgery, working in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team to improve the quality of care delivered to the Veteran.

The duties of this role include:

  • Responsible for perioperative assessment, evaluation, planning, and conduct of an appropriate anesthetic tailored to meet the needs of the surgical patient.
  • Responsible for assuring safe recovery from anesthesia and providing pain treatment in the immediate postoperative period.
  • Accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care, and standards of practice while providing care to surgical patients.
  • Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of information obtained to carry out required duties.
  • Routinely communicates with Physicians, Managers, and other Allied Health Professional staff using sound interpersonal skills.

This is a full-time position, and the schedule will be discussed during the interview process. The position is authorized for compressed and flexible work arrangements but not for telework or virtual work. Relocation and recruitment incentives are authorized, but Permanent Change of Station (PCS) is not required. A Financial Disclosure Report is not required for this position.

This position is in the Excepted Service and is eligible for coverage by a Bargaining Unit. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications is June 20, 2024, with subsequent reviews every other week as additional vacancies occur, or on an as-needed basis, until positions are filled.
